In India, numerous folk tales have been passed down over the years describing likely cases of rebirth. On December 11, 1926, a baby girl named Shanti Devi Mathur was born in the small locale of Chirkahana in Old Delhi. For Hindus, her miraculous story became a defining truth that fully confirmed their core belief in reincarnation.

As a four-year-old toddler she had barely begun to speak, then one day her parents were bewildered when some of the first words she uttered were about her "husband" and "son" along with precise recollections of a prior life in a small town about 90 miles away.

Never before had she been to Mathura, yet she described her old neighborhood, family and friends down to the tiniest details. She expressed herself like a mature woman using long sentences and words only grown-ups would know. Shanti Devi had never been apart from her parents, yet she spoke a very unique and specific dialect known only to the locals of Mathura.  

Her past life name was Lugdi Bai and she was married to a cloth merchant named Kedar Nath Chaube. Amazingly, infant Shanti Devi could clearly remember how Lugdi's life slipped away at the age of 23 after she gave birth to a little boy in 1925.

It was as if she was experiencing two simultaneous realities. The life in front of her eyes as Shanti Devi seemed real to family and friends but to her it was like living in a dream state. This caused her great anguish and distress. The life inside her mind, where she saw faces and heard voices from her past life as Lugdi Bai, was the foundation of her identity and a personal truth she never wavered from.

Shanti Devi was absolutely convinced that she was still Lugdi Bai. She was baffled that she had a child’s body, that her loved ones were nowhere to be found, and that she was living in a strange town with surrogate parents.

Starting in 1972, 2 year old James Leininger had nightmares that he was a pilot in an airplane crash that took place in World War Two. For over 3 years the dreams were so vivid and consistent that his parents sought out the guidance of pioneering past life regressionist Carol Bowman. Their painstaking research and Bowmans therapeutic expertise firmly established that little James was the past life reincarnation of  Navy fighter pilot James McCready Huston of South Bend, Indiana.

James' Grandmother first brought up the possibility that his nightmares and fascination with World War II bombers could be past life memories. She learned that he had vast knowledge of the Pacific Theatre of World War 2 including specific details about the USS Natoma Bay Naval Aircraft Carrier that no one else could have known unless they had been there.

Bruce Leininger did not believe in reincarnation. But he took his son James to a WWII aircraft museum, and was awe struck as James went through a pre-flight check of a Corsair Bomber, identifying all the navigation instruments, running through cockpit procedures and a pre-flight checklist. How could a five year old possibly know so much?

Three years of investigation culminated in a meeting with family members of the original pilots and crew of the squadron that had flown missions over Iwo Jima along with James Huston on the day his plane was shot down. Based on the evidence,  they are completely convinced that James Leininger is in fact James Huston reincarnated. Their story is told in the bestselling book “Soul Survivor.”
